Care-A-Vanners

The Basics

RV Care-A-Vanners is a volunteer program for anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle, wants to build Habitat houses and have fun doing it. RV Care-A-Vanners welcomes people from all walks of life who want to pick up a hammer and help change lives. No experience necessary!

Stop by Sheridan to help out on your way to your destination or travel to different Habitat sites all over the nation!

Logistics

You will be staying at Peter D’s RV Park. Directions to the park are as follows: easy on/off I-90. Take exit 23 (5th St.) and go west .3 mi to Joe Street. The address is 1105 Joe Street. The camping rate is $35 per night and the affiliate is covering a portion of that and asking for at least a $20 donation/night. The park has pedestals with 30/50 amp service, water, and sewer at each space. Internet connection is available as well as cable TV at no extra charge. The park also has restrooms, showers, a private phone, and a laundry room available.  Pets are allowed in the park on a leash. Campers are asked to be good neighbors and pick up dog droppings. Pets are NOT allowed at the work site.

Work will begin 8am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday.

What to bring

Bring all the personal tools you may want to use.  We suggest a hammer, tool belt or nail pouch, measuring tape, utility knife, pencil, and work gloves for starters.  The affiliate has all the power tools needed.  If you have a personal hard hat and safety glasses that you use, bring them. Please mark your tools for identification.

Bring old clothes to work in and sturdy shoes. The weather can always change so bring layers. Be sure to have sunscreen, a hat, and water bottle. You may want to bring lawn chairs to take to the site for lunch time and breaks.
